Derek handing Bob Benzie an award for being the best Rotarian of our Club
Part of outgoing President Derek Gee's Speech:
This Rotary centennial year has been a truly champagne year for our club.
Our membership has grown to 23 and the change of venue from Lincoln Green to the Trusts
Stadium has been an excellent move.
Monies were raised through our Soapbox Derby, Golf competition, Smith & Partners
Charity Ball and various donations.
These totaled $130,000
$90,000 of this money is being used to provide furniture & equipment for the new West
Auckland Hospice at Te Atatu. $15,000 went to the Rotary Saints basketball team formed by
the NZ Breakers as part of their Kids at Risk programme. The balance went to a variety of
good causes, most involving youth.
We hosted a student from France, provided 20 Xmas baskets to
needy families, arranged two tree plantings of young trees raised by Matipo School to help
prevent soil erosion and presented an award to Graeme Douglas of Douglas Pharmaceuticals
for his work in the community & generous support of local projects. Awards were also
given to Bob Benzie, Kerry McMillan, John Ritchie, Terry Hodges & Graham Nicholson for
‘going the extra mile’.
HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED
Why they don’t have mouse-flavored cat food?
When they introduce a new improved flavor of dog food who does the tasting?
Why don’t they make the whole aircraft out of the same material as
the black box?
Why can’t woman put on mascara with their mouths shut?
Why don’t sheep struck when it rains?
Why you don’t see the headline “Clairvoyant wins powerball’
